What does the collection contain?
The Archive holds a wide array of material from the region’s early history to more recent times, including photographs, postcards, newspaper cuttings, recollections by former residents, early tourist promotional material, as well as publications, memorabilia, and realia.
Who can access the Archive?
The Archive is a valuable resource for local history research and family history research. While the Archive may be useful to University students and High School students doing advanced study, it is generally not available for students doing school assignments. In these cases, local libraries are the best starting point.
When is the Archive open?
The Archive is run by volunteers, and is open by appointment only.
I want to view something in the collection, how do I arrange this?
Access to the Archive is available only by appointment.
Before requesting an appointment, consult the Archive catalogue (on-line through the Manly Library Website). Record the call numbers of the items you wish to view
(the call numbers beginning with MWP are held by the Archive).

Then, e-mail the call numbers to the Society’s Archivist on goughgp@bigpond.com who will contact you to arrange a suitable time and day for your visit.
Where is the Archive located?
The Archive is located on the first floor of the Manly Library in the corner of the building, on the opposite side of the library from the lifts.

Please note that the Archive is separate from Manly Library, and library staff may not be able to assist in locating the Archive. The Archive should not be confused with the Wellings Local Studies Room or the Family History Area.
How much does it cost?
For members and students, access to the Archive is free.
For professional researchers, an access fee of $25 per hour or $15 per half-hour (minimum 1 hour) applies.

Research services are available for people who cannot visit the
Archive in person. The fee for research services is $25 per hour
(minimum 1 hour). Preliminary advice is given free of charge.
Can I make a photocopy?
Photocopies of some material may be made for reference or study at the discretion of the Archivist. The Commonwealth Copyright Act 1968 (as amended) applies. Some material may not be available to copy for conservation and other reasons, such as restrictions on material placed by a donor as a condition of the donation. The Archivist’s decision on photocopying is final. For more information about copyright law, see the Copyright Council website: www.copyright.org.au
A4-size black & white photocopies cost 40 cents per page. The Archivist will stamp each page copied and record the catalogue number of the source. Photocopies will be made by the Archivist and will not always be available the same day. Laser print and photographic print copies may also be available for order at costs to be advised.
For copies of material for publication or other uses, please contact the Archivist
